Herb Gardens at Common
Ground
|
Common
Ground Community Center’s one acre of all-organic paradise was once
a thriving botanical herb business owned by our Founder, Suzanna McDougal.
She sold medicinal herbs as tinctures, salves and in bulk, and dried flower
arrangements. When that form changed, organic farmers leased the ground
and grew vegetables for our local Farmer’s Market
To
this day there are over seventy medicinal herbs happily growing in the
gardens, tucked alongside shrubs, roses and annuals. The common ones
like catnip and mugwort re-seed themselves every year. The uncommon
ones, like ginseng and golden seal, have their own shaded bed in which
they thrive.
Some
say by actually seeing the herb you use medicinally in its own habitat,
and adoring it, and yes, perhaps even talking to it, you are enhancing
your body’s use of its special ingredients. You’re welcome
to walk the gardens and visit with us about an herb you’re wanting to know
about. Our Master Gardener, Jeanie, has worked the land for seven
years, and knows every plant and weed in the place. She is always
happy to identify and discuss gardening. We encourage meaningful
relationships with plants, animals and, oh yes, people!
